Today I ventured into new territory and traveled west by bus and train, going one mountain further than Arashiyama. Kameoka is a sort of Joensuu, an utterly ugly small town, but if you walk for about 40 minutes, you reach paradise in October!
The Yume Cosmos Flower Garden blooms over 4.2 hectares with approximately 8 million cosmos flowers of all colors, 20 different varieties, it just doesn’t end! But only in October. The flowers themselves are very delicate and in this light-footed mass, they are completely overwhelming, you feel like you’re floating a bit above the ground.
Feast your eyes on the pictures! Soon the world will be black and white again until spring!
Alongside the beautiful flowers, there was also a scarecrow competition featuring many well-known characters on the grounds.
At the end of my long walk, I finally found a stall where I could get Takoyaki, hot dough balls that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (apparently they love soft here: Even the sweets, like Mochi and grilled chicken skin on a skewer, are sticky, soft, and tender, yet still tasty) with a piece of octopus in the middle, brushed with umami sauce and then topped with mayonnaise!
On my way home, I noticed again that street lighting is virtually non-existent here; you can't even see where you're stepping on the sidewalk, so the best accessory to bring to Japan is a pocket or headlamp.
