Great Ocean Road, Port Fairy - Apollo Bay

Today marks the beginning of the drive along the coast to Sydney. From Port Fairy, we drove to Apollo Bay. This stretch of coast is known as the Great Ocean Road and is considered a major attraction. As a result, there are many tourists, especially from Asia, at the viewpoints.

The coast is truly beautiful. It has a moor-like landscape with quite tall shrubs, and the sandstone formations by the sea are very diverse. Every few kilometers along the Great Ocean Road, there is another viewpoint.

There are also stories associated with the places. The London Arch was one of these sites. It collapsed in 1990, and the tourists who had just walked over the arch suddenly found themselves on an island with 20-meter-tall cliffs. At Loch Ard, two shipwreck survivors were washed ashore and rescued in 1878. The remaining 52 people did not survive the shipwreck.

The town of Apollo Bay is a true tourist destination. There is a long, green beach promenade. On one side, there are many shops, while on the other green side, there is a tall sand dune that protects the town from the sea. House prices here are high, as are restaurant prices. Like at the attractions, there are predominantly Asian tourists here who swarm to experience everything.

The Great Ocean Road is beautiful, but many other coastlines can easily compete with it.
