Trip from Kiama to Sydney

What a difference the weather makes. This morning the weather was really nice, which made our overnight spot Kiama look beautiful. Last night we already had dinner in Kiama, and this morning we explored the place a bit. The main highlights are a lighthouse and a blowhole from which seawater regularly shoots out. It’s a lovely place in nice weather.

The drive to Sydney went almost smoothly. The traffic got denser as we got closer to Sydney, and navigating around the city is not particularly fun. Many streets are one-way, and if you make a wrong turn somewhere, you might end up back on the toll highway or toll bridge. Unfortunately, the phone lost GPS signal at just the wrong time.

However, we drove directly to our hotel, just took a detour to fill up the car, and returned it without a scratch. The hotel is great. It is absolutely central, has large rooms with big bathrooms. Our room is on the 19th floor, and the hotel has an excellent concierge, a pool, and a gym.

After we took a tram tour, which wasn’t very interesting since it was mostly underground, we went out for French cuisine again. It was excellent, they even served real bread. In the big city, there is simply a good, diverse food offer and not just fried bar food or pizza, like in the countryside restaurants. Until June 14, 2025, Vivid Sydney will still be ongoing. With this event, Sydney aims to showcase contemporary art, innovation, and technology for 23 days and nights with artists, musicians, thinkers, and culinary experts. We caught some of the music and saw that the larger buildings are illuminated in all kinds of colors. The city is definitely full of people, filling all the restaurants. However, this would also be the case without Vivid.
