Today we arrived in Alotau, Papua New Guinea. Alotau is located in the far east of Papua New Guinea in a bay. It has around 13,000 residents and is the provincial capital.
Alotau is known for a battle in World War II where the Japanese army suffered its first defeat on land. We also visited the memorial.
Upon arrival in the morning, many fishermen were just returning with their single-hulled boats. Above the town, there were the usual smoke clouds from the bushfires.
In the harbor itself, there were many pretty swallows that apparently nest in the harbor walls.
This time, there was no welcome music or dance performance. Instead, we went straight on a tour.
More to come...
