Westfjords II

Published: 25.07.2023

Now I'm really diving into the area of the Icelandic Westfjords. The weather is perfect, 9°C and no rain in sight. Wind strength, wind direction and temperature are occasionally displayed on signs at the roadside. I roll from Road 607 onto the delightful Road 60 and then onto Road 63. It's mostly a coastal route. I really like that. But it also goes over the mountain. The first time again on an (still) old section of road with gravel. Inclines with 15° plus occur. Tight curves too. Lowest speed limit: 20km/h. The motorcycle is almost in the unstable range. Hildegard rolls steadily ahead. It's a good thing I've practiced driving slowly so often. Some of these curves are also inclined, like a bike track. That was an experience!!

To satisfy my hunger, I have fish dumpling soup. Tastes good. Dessert: rhubarb cake with cream. Rhubarb grows a lot here in the gardens and is therefore also culinarily available in some variety. Rabarbari or Tröllasúra is then on the menu.

After lunch, we pass a statue in the mountains, the Kleifabúi. I have attached a link here for more information.

There are more wonderful scenic views, both on the coastal roads and in the mountains. When today's destination comes into view, I was very pleased with the view it offered. Unfortunately, we were still in the mountains and no good stopping place was in sight.

Oh, one strange thing: today I noticed that the engine oil level is very low. And that's 3,000 km after the last inspection with an oil change. Is that normal? That bothered me and so I asked a master mechanic for help in Patreksfjörður.

Now Hildegard has enough oil again and I will watch it more closely from now on.
