Day 14: Trip to Finisterre & Fisterra

Bonus program:

Today, there is an organized bus trip to Finisterre, or in Spanish, Fisterra, with five additional stops; we decided on this yesterday afternoon, as everything is quickly booked nowadays (getyourguide); as usual, the Swiss are also joining us; we are no longer surprised by this 😀.

As the rain starts, we board the bus at 8:45 AM. We have our backpacks with us since we are spending the night in a different hotel, which we booked back home - Hostal Santa Filomena - and it gives us a good feeling to have everything with us.

We skip the first stop - Ponte Maceira - and remain (the only ones) seated on the bus because it’s raining and thundering outside, and we don’t want to put on our disposable rain ponchos or get our shoes wet.

The second stop is Muros, a nice seaside place for a coffee break.

Then comes the Estranzo waterfall, the only one in Europe that flows into the ocean.

After that, we have lunch in the town of Finisterre, where mostly Mariscos (seafood) are served, grown on rafts made from local eucalyptus wood (we learned this today; our guide David gives a lively presentation of the program).

The highlight is Cape Fisterra, which the Romans believed to be the end of the world and where the Zero-Camino stone stands; there is a second zero-stone in Muxia on the Costa de la Morte, as there are two paths that end in this area. Muxia is our last stop.

At 6:45 PM, we arrive at the new hotel, take a 'quick 15', i.e., a fast preparation for dinner (as my little sister would say) and head back to the lovely venue from yesterday.

Today, it’s only 19 degrees cool, so we go inside the restaurant. Unfortunately, our Cuban waitress is not here today, and we realize the difference that good service makes. Without the sun and friendly service, the place feels a bit enchanted.

It’s fitting because by now, we are both looking forward to being home, to our loved ones, and to our own bed...and to freshly washed clothes; we are already checked in.

With the little black dress, which I have to wear with sneakers today due to the cool temperature, my little experiment a la Heike Winnemuth is over!

Tomorrow, we want to visit the cathedral and do a bit of shopping 😀
