Today we consciously became ‘early birds’ and set the alarm for 6:30 AM; by 7 AM we were already ‘strapped in’ (that’s what we call the waist belt) on the Camino, which again ran directly past the Hostal.
A quick breakfast at a bar right on the way, with a short chat and a selfie with the owner.
Despite the early hour - a new experience for us - there were already many pilgrims cheerfully chatting along the way and we were right in the middle of it; this was also unusual for us, as we had mostly seen hikers before but hadn’t walked in such a group. However, walking in the morning hours has its charm and is much more pleasant because of the heat.
Here in Galicia, there are various milestone stones that indicate the remaining kilometers (with three decimal places - as if that would still matter!) to the destination Santiago de Compostela. This was different in Portugal - there we simply followed the yellow arrow or the shell symbol; the route is very well marked.
With today’s running distance, we will come below the 70 km mark, meaning we have completed 3/4 of our journey from Porto to Santiago - this fills us with joy, but also a bit of nostalgia, as we only have 1/4 left to our goal.
Today we will be at the accommodation a bit earlier and are looking forward to relaxing, nail care (Sabine says I shouldn’t write that), and doing laundry.
