Day 8 - Edinburgh -> Fort William

On we go. Our next vacation spot is Fort William in the west of Scotland. After a quick stop at the supermarket (why do the Scots have so many delicious cheeses, chutneys, and relishes?? I can't even close my suitcase already T.T) the bus is back on the road.

About two hours after our departure from Edinburgh, we reach the Cairngorms, an eastern outcrop of the area commonly known as the Highlands, which now stretches before us all the way to the coast in the west. The always-present purple wildflower cushions are back; the hills become a little hillier. Grass flows in streaks over the gray-brown rocky ground like green lava.
These colors change subtly - green deciduous trees give way to darker conifers, and instead of purple flowers, more and more heather blooms in shades of lavender, while the rock is no longer brown and flat but increasingly tall and light gray to chalk white.

I suppress the urge to photograph every new change as my window has a blue sunshade tint and the road is often separated from the landscape by unphotogenic fences. I am sure we will encounter many more great and undisturbed motifs to see and enjoy the view with my eyes.

After a stomach-churning drive, we arrive at the holiday village where we will spend the next days. Our chalet has everything one could wish for, including a dishwasher, bathtub, and a view of Loch Eil.
