What can go wrong when everything is free? The Futurium in Berlin is a fantastic outing suggestion for families as well as for adults.
The great thing is: The Futurium is located in close proximity to Berlin Central Station. Just step out of the station, turn left, and after about two hundred to three hundred meters, you’ll find yourself in front of the modern building. In nice weather, you can even visit the skywalk and enjoy the view over Berlin. Unfortunately, that was not possible for us this time as it was pouring rain. But that also had its charm: We comfortably sat on small stools, looked out into the rain, and discovered many fascinating exhibits and ideas for the future inside.
In the basement of the Futurium, there is the so-called Future Lab. Here, children can get active and try out exciting experiments. For instance, they can design their own models on the computer, which can then be printed with a 3D printer. I would have loved to try my hand at it, if there hadn’t been so many children in front of me. Of course, I let them go first.
There's also a lot to observe: such as plants growing under artificial light, or interactive stations where you can make decisions using a gesture-controlled wristband. It takes a bit of getting used to, but after all, this is about the future and it can certainly be a bit different.
As someone who enjoys photography, I could definitely express myself here. The objects are all extremely photogenic, with many exciting lines of sight, interesting details, and impressive large installations. You continually discover new perspectives and subjects. And of course, you’ll also find numerous monitors where you can listen to information or watch short films.
In the end, the impression remains of a versatile, inspiring, and educational place that encourages reflection and sparks excitement for the future. The only downside is that it's closed on Tuesdays.
