Part 1: Green Band through Valencia – The Turia Park

Valencia is amazing. Fortunately, I extended my stay for three more nights after our cruise, as the city deserves much more than just a day trip.

And because there is so much to show, I divided my report into different parts.

My top tip for starting out: Walk through the old riverbed of the Turia! What sounds strange at first is actually a true highlight. After a devastating flood in 1957, the Río Turia was redirected. The city could have built on the former riverbed – but instead opted for something better: a massive city park.

The Jardín del Turia stretches like a green ribbon through the city. What I particularly like: The old stone bridges that used to cross the river are still standing. Today, you walk below them – with a view from below that was previously only enjoyed from a boat.

Whether you want to jog, simply need some city greenery, or are planning a picnic – this is the place for you. And the best part: At the end, an architectural surprise awaits that could hardly be more futuristic...

More about this in Part 2: The brilliantly white structures of star architect Calatrava – continue reading here.
