Malmö to Lund and in Lund

On a not-so-early morning, I set off for Lund. Quick check-out and off to the highway to drive to Lund, which is 45 kilometers away, just like in Malmö...

... there are also many old buildings in Lund. Unlike in Germany, these towns were more affected by war and destruction in the Middle Ages rather than in the 20th century. During my walk into the city, I noticed that the suburbs aren't very nice. Often, there are multi-story apartment blocks, although frequently with greenery nearby.

The image above shows the Cathedral of Lund, which is over 900 years old (more information, including about Lund: https://visitsweden.de/regionen/sudschweden/skane/lund-eine-stadt-mit-herz-und-kopfchen/). An exhibition titled 'We have a dream' took place there. It was highly interesting but also depressing. Well-known figures and activists shared 'their stories' about their lives and hopes for the future, such as Patti Smith, the Dalai Lama, Ai Weiwei, or Richard Branson. My next destination was the Museum of Cultures. It illustrates the history of building styles in Sweden. Additionally, there were rune stones displayed, which I find very fascinating. The following stone was carved around the year 1000.

Many of the building styles I had seen somewhere during my travels, while others I recognized from films.

Another exhibit took me back to my childhood. I often watched the series Michel from Lönneberga (book by Astrid Lindgren). Some relatives even saw me as Michel from Scheidt. Whenever Michel got into trouble, his father would always scream Miiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccchel, causing the boy to flee to the shed and lock himself in from the inside. The father would run after him and lock it from the outside. In the shed, Michel carved figures until his mother eventually freed him.

In the accompanying museum, I found some interesting exhibits. A coin - first minting from Jülich, Berg, and Cleve (these places belonged to Cleve at that time)..

On the way back to the campsite (an urban one, where I stood on a parking lot with power connection), I also passed the University in Lund. It is one of the oldest institutions in Sweden and was founded in 1666. Today, there are over 40,000 students – and this for a population of just under 100,000. One of the oldest buildings may have been the basis for the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Rapunzel...

The university consists of a variety of old buildings, some of which are situated around park areas.

Now it's time to say goodbye to Lund, as tomorrow morning I will be traveling back to Cleve, unless I get too tired and have to make a stop.
