Day 2: Höxter -> Uslar

Today, we started with a visit to the State Garden Show in Höxter. The weather was perfect for such an outing - warm, but not too hot. What can I say about a garden show? To quote a famous song, 'Where have all the flowers gone?' There were plenty of flowers of all colors, shapes, and combinations, especially in the flower beds. There were also some interesting attractions, but it somehow lacked that 'wow' factor. At least, that's how we felt.

By around two o'clock, we had seen enough and made our way back, passing through Höxter-City once again. We were surprised to see how lively it was there and wondered how much of it was due to the garden show or if it's always like that in other years...

The rest of the route alternated between pleasant but somewhat boring and a fantastic cycle path right along the river. In Beverungen, we stopped for coffee along the busy main road. Bad Karlshafen didn't leave much of an impression other than the city harbor. From there, we continued to Bodenfelde, which we skipped, and then left the Weser river in Lippoldsberg to reach our "Fachwerk Ferienwohnung" (half-timbered vacation apartment) in Schoningen. This part of the route, at least for the first two-thirds, was actually the highlight of the day. We didn't expect anything good, but it turned out to be incredibly idyllic! We were already looking forward to tomorrow's return journey as we cycled up. Along the way, we passed 'Gut Steimke', which seems to be an absolute hippie location with obscure festivals, etc. It's funny because on the last stage, we also passed 'Gut Wintrup' where Kraan recorded their first albums - a hippie nostalgia trip.

After settling into our "Fachwerk Ferienwohnung", we took a short trip to Uslar (surprise: lots of half-timbered houses, but unfortunately not much else going on). Let's just say we'll keep quiet about the menu here.

The highlight of the day for sure was the final stretch from the Weser to Uslar. It was surprisingly beautiful. Today's distance: 70 km, total distance: 177 km.
