A Relaxed Month

Another month has passed, and although there isn't much to report from this time, I really enjoyed it. June was significantly quieter than the previous months. We even had ten consecutive days without guests here, and you can tell: we've arrived in the low season. Also, Lana was on vacation for several weeks. The combination of having no guests and no boss was honestly quite relaxing :D

The work during this time was therefore pretty cool. We listened to loud music, sat in the restaurant, lounged in the hammock — all things one usually wouldn't do if there were guests around. I definitely had a lot of fun with everyone and we always laughed a lot. The Costa Ricans are definitely a people with a great sense of humor, full of jokes, fun, and zest for life.

In the last week of June, I had time off and decided to stay at the lodge this time. Firstly, to save some money. And secondly, to continue working on my reports for university. Also, it gave me more time for myself. Overall, the break did me really good.

Now there are only two months left here at the lodge before I travel around the country for two weeks and then return to Germany. But I already know that I will leave this place with a mixed feeling of both happiness and sadness.

Oh yes... I want to share one experience where I felt really uncomfortable. And honestly, I was a bit scared too :D On one of the last evenings, it was already dark (around 9 PM), a heavy rainstorm and thunder took place. The rain was extremely loud, the lightning very bright, and the thunder was stronger than I have ever experienced. I'm not sure, but I think that the hilly landscape reflects the sound waves. This not only makes the thunder very loud but also incredibly long. Sometimes 15 to 20 seconds!

That evening was truly extreme. And as if that wasn't enough, there was also an earthquake. Right after a loud clap of thunder, everything suddenly shook — the ground, the bed, the cupboard. Everything moved. I would be lying if I said I was not relieved once it was all over. Exactly in such moments one realizes again: We humans are so small and the power of nature is so immense that we definitely have no say in it...
