Interesting Experiences
Living in another country also means getting to know the culture. And it's easy to forget that three months is a decent amount of time to do this, but there’s still so much that...

In the past week, two 18-year-old volunteers from the USA were at the Luna Lodge, as they needed to complete a small practical component to finish their schooling. Even though at times you could still tell they were a few years younger, I must say that both were really cool guys with whom I had a great time. One is Spanish and the other is Tico – so both speak perfect Spanish, which was obviously ideal.
During their stay, I was basically their 'mentor', accompanying them throughout the week, supporting them, and planning and executing the entire program together with them. Among other things, they interviewed a local gold prospector, spent time with local children, played soccer with locals, and helped out at a turtle conservation organization on the beach. I was involved in everything and made sure things went as we had discussed. For me, it was both a relaxing change from everyday life and extremely interesting. I also learned quite a bit about what it means to be in a small leadership role. Ultimately, we were a small team, and I was the team leader. So it was a truly cool and valuable experience for me!
The day before yesterday was also my birthday, and I spent the day with the two guys. During the day, we helped out at a nearby turtle conservation organization. After the subsequent lunch, the three of us went to a nearby waterfall that was quite difficult to access. Since you definitely had to show your climbing skills there to avoid falling, the adrenaline was definitely pumping at times :D Clearly a little adventure!
In the evening, we happened to have no guests in the lodge, so we could celebrate with all the staff in the restaurant. We ate together, listened to loud music, danced, and of course also drank quite a bit. It was just an extremely successful day and evening, and definitely a special birthday that you don't forget easily, but probably also won't experience again so quickly!
