We finally arrived in Sydney, slightly battered and quite disheveled! By now, Saturday morning has dawned and progressed. Once around the world…
During our previous visits, our accommodation was rather basic; this time we wanted something a bit more comfortable, so we checked into the Pullman at Hyde Park. It has a good location near the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, and Darling Harbour, but also close to Oxford Street for evening amusement. Luckily, at this moment we are not yet aware of the special challenges of our stay at the Pullman. But that’s a story for another time. Jet lag is kicking in, and we urgently need to shower and sleep, sleep, sleep.
At some point, we manage to no longer ignore the ringing of the alarm clock and we carefully open one eye. It’s Saturday evening, so we get ready to go out and warm up with a sip of wine from the Adelaide Hills.
Everything is full at the Oxford Hotel, so we head to Kinselas. It’s quite surprising that in the global city of Sydney, one can have the same problems as in Karlsruhe… it borders on impossible to get something to eat at 9:30 PM. Luckily, there’s a kebab takeaway around the corner that feeds hungry people. Strengthened by that, nothing stands in the way of our visit to the Stonwall Hotel. It’s quite busy, as always, on Saturday night and depending on where you come from and what language you speak, there’s Cabaret/a Drag Show/a Travesty Show. Well, the grass isn’t always greener in the neighbor’s garden… they still primarily rely on lip-syncing here… maybe Fanny Davies should stop by for a workshop. However, it doesn’t detract from the atmosphere, we’re having a good time and even run into one of the hotel’s reception staff. We also check out the dance floor on the first floor. The music here is pretty good, but the audience is clearly younger. And slowly but surely, we start feeling sleepy again… back to the hotel.
