More Sea
After a breakfast with a view of the lake, we bid farewell to Lake Taupo and head towards our second to last destination. Raglan on the West Coast. It wasn't so easy to find...

The end is near...however, it is only the end of our time in the compact castle. We have arrived at our last campsite in Auckland, enjoying a beautiful ocean view. To sweeten our farewell, we are taking a trip to Waiheke Island. So in the morning, we quickly ordered an Uber, drove to the harbor, boarded the ferry, went to the island, and hopped on the Hop on Hop off bus. With this, we are visiting a few wineries.
First on the agenda is Cable Bay where we have a mini wine tasting – not bad at all, and we are already a bit tipsy! Conveniently, the winery also has a restaurant with – as we hope – excellent cuisine. The view is definitely stunning. But the food has to hold its own too! We relish the meal and wash it down – in style – with a glass of wine. This is manageable!
We rush to the next winery: Stonyridge Vineyard. At first glance, it seems to be notably more tourist-oriented and the service is somewhat chaotic. After some back and forth, we can also have a wine tasting here. Two out of the three do not appeal to us, but the rosé is good. Fallen Angel…how fitting. After we hinted at our departure that we found the service in need of improvement, an employee comes running after us and hands us a bottle of rosé as an apology... which is very nice indeed.
One last winery is still on the agenda:
The secco is good, but the wines do not impress. But slowly but surely we have also tried enough.
We make our way back to the ferry and look forward to one last cozy evening in the compact castle.
