Store Mosse National Park

Right near the Flatens Camping site where we spent the night is Store Mosse National Park. 

So we were quickly there in the morning and managed to park our motorhome in the correct parking lot. (A good idea, as we later realized: Various other vehicles that were parked incorrectly received small yellow tickets with a payment request stuck to the windshield when we returned to the parking lot after our hike.)

The exhibition at the “Naturum” and the café were still closed, but there were only a few visitors on the trails at that time.

From the birdwatching tower, we spotted some deer and cranes wandering through the extensive wet meadows.

We then hiked through the forest until we reached the bog.

A boardwalk led over the wetland and stretched through the expansive landscape.

In parts, it was rather narrow and some of the boards were loose, so caution was advised.

Then forest and bog landscapes alternated.

Throughout the park, there were seating areas and picnic tables. We took a longer break after about halfway at a large lake.

After about 10 kilometers of the circular path, we arrived back at the “Naturum”.

The modern exhibition was interactive and multilingual, informing visitors about bogs and the flora and fauna of the area.

To finish, we treated ourselves to a fresh waffle at the small café in the observation tower, which had now opened.

Back at the campsite, we enjoyed the afternoon by the beautiful lake in the sunshine, even though it was quite windy.

We also made use of the mini-golf course on the site - though not with much skill.

In the evening, we enjoyed the beautiful view and planned our onward journey for the next day.
