Sun, beach and ...

Published: 18.11.2017

Finally relax, that's our plan. After our humble breakfast, the margarine tastes like petroleum, the jam without flavor ... just sweet. Then there are pancakes, similar to Styrofoam ... toast without toppings will do. The Gallo Pinto with scrambled eggs is ok and they do a good job with the fruit 😉.

Since we didn't like Playa Sàmara that much, we drove to Playa Carrillo a few kilometers south yesterday. Rented some beach chairs and umbrellas and chilled. It was beautiful. The sea is wonderful, we went into the waves up to our knees in the morning.

Unfortunately, we had to leave at 3 pm ... we had a date.

Back at the hotel, what a shock, after a few hours in the absolute shade Jörg looked like a lobster ... but all over. Despite that, we were hungry and went to Gusto Beach. The food right on the beach was delicious! While eating, we had chills, it's a miracle that we made it back home just a few steps away.

Jörg was no longer red, but colorless ... but he is prepared for these situations. After an hour, everything was back to normal. He felt good again.

Okay, he was the only one wearing fleece on the turtle tour, the others had at most long sleeves on because of the mosquitoes, and they were sweating.

Our excursion took us to Camaronal Beach. Here, there is a reserve for turtles 🐢. Costa Rica is home to 6 species of sea turtles - between 75 cm - 50 kg and 160 cm - 360 kg. 3 of these species come to Camaronal for nesting.

On site, as many eggs as possible are collected right after they are laid, and the baby turtles are released into the sea at 8 pm on the day of hatching. This way, the little ones have the best chance of reaching deep waters before sunrise and have a better chance of survival. Out of 1000 eggs, only 1 adult turtle survives. On average, each turtle lays about 100 eggs.

We were fortunate, a little baby turtle had hatched an hour earlier. A latecomer, its siblings had already made it out the day before and were ready to go,

With some initial difficulties, the waves kept bringing the little one back, we finally watched it go into the open sea. We wished it good luck and off it went ...

Unfortunately, we weren't able to observe any adult turtles. Our find was a type of crab that lives in used shells. This specimen in the picture will soon have to move to a bigger home.

We had a wonderful walk on the beach and an incredible starry sky ....
