World's End and World's Upside Down

On the way from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, we see warnings on walls, urgently pointing out the dangers of the internet, drug use, bullying and exclusion, religious fanaticism, consumerism, quackery, speeding, corruption, bribery, and greed. Moreover, there are warnings about wars and land occupations, particularly relevant for Sri Lanka, a former colony of various ruling countries with its own recent civil war experiences.

However, on this day, it is the attack by the USA and Israel on Iran that has everyone in turmoil. There are long queues of cars at gas stations, with no end in sight. Fear of running out of petrol spreads rapidly. We are anxious about how we will return home, as the airports in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are being attacked. Tourists are canceling their trips, representing a major source of income for Sri Lanka that is now vanishing. For our driver, this jeopardizes his livelihood. Without rides, there is no money, and things can quickly become serious.

We all take a deep breath and pause - there is nothing we can do at the moment.
The government reassures us that fuel supply at gas stations is secured for 4 weeks. Tourist visas are automatically extended. All this gives us room to think.

We are in Nuwara Eliya - from here we can easily reach Horton Eco Park, where World's End is located. We are over 2000m high, and it is quite pleasant while we wait for the midday heat. I haven't discovered why it's called World's End, but the wording on Wikipedia is quite sensational: It is a sheer cliff, dropping about 1,200 meters (4,000 ft). This means that at the viewpoint, it drops straight down 870 m. That certainly means the end of the world! The viewpoint is secured with barbed wire in the bushes = no railing = open view :-)
