Vibrant Angkor Wat. A treasure. World Heritage. The heart of the temple complex Angkor Wat, which was home to an estimated 1,000,000 people 700 years ago. Only the temples were built from stone, and the bustling activity of that metropolis has left us with this visible legacy.

Imposing, impressive, reverent. Despite the many people who kept us mesmerized on our way from the ticket entrance to the temple, we find tranquility, silence, and beauty inside. The dedication with which all the fine rosettes, the mighty yet delicate columns, the pointed ceilings of the corridors, and the gestures of the dancers, as well as the gentle smile of Buddha, have been created. A lifelong task for many generations, each one a part of a creation until its (never-ending?) completion.

Nooks and crannies, corridors, steps, I feel the profound spirituality with which people still honor the sanctuary today, pilgrimage to present their yearnings, worries, and wishes. To kneel in humility. To pause in awe.
Angkor Wat, the place where important life events are commemorated, where one dresses up nicely, where memories are captured in photographs: I was there!

Vibrant Angkor Wat. 'Work in Progress' just like life is :-). A chat among women on the bridge, boys jumping into the water, a worker taking a midday nap, street vendors, stalls with food and drink... Life is happening, all under the smile and the blessing of Buddha.
