Day #71
Friday, July 10th
From Vojskovo to Trogir
Country: Croatia
The day starts off relaxed until I realize that my hammock cover is missing.
So I have to unpack the tent and sleeping bag again, searching where I most suspect it, but to no avail.
Since there was considerable wind last night, I ask the neighbors if my cover blew over to their side.
They are at least very willing to help me.
Fun fact, the family comes from a part of the Czech Republic that I know from Brutal Assault.
I also climb over the slope, as they tell me that stuff often lands there blown by the wind, but no luck there either.
Ultimately, I accept the situation, take down the hammock, and find the cover in the cord bag.
It remains true that things have their designated place. At least that's how it should be, and such things happen when you deviate from that and store things neatly but incorrectly.
I could have gone swimming in that time instead.
After the somewhat late start, I head towards Split.
Yesterday, I deviated from the route on my way to the campsite, so I stubbornly follow the main road as I’m too lazy to reprogram a new route.
I then have to do so out of necessity before heading onto the highway.
So down the mountain for a short distance, and then along the coast.
Before Split, there’s a traffic jam, and I take advantage of the fact that I am slim and nimble, somehow finding my way around and right through until I end up in the city center.
There is a lunch break before I take a stroll through the beautiful old town.
With the bike, it’s a challenge to navigate through the narrow streets and up the steps, so the round trip is cut short.
Which is a bit unfortunate since the city is very old and beautiful.
After all, it’s part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Understandable with the ancient Roman buildings.
Outside the city is also another traffic jam, which I pass through just as elegantly as before.
Istanbul toughened me up for that.
Then I head down a path that could date back to Roman times.
When I find myself at an archaeological site on the other end, I realize the assumption was correct.
Back at the sea, it’s finally time, I can go swimming and cool off in the afternoon heat. Wonderful, but I must move on.
After the road, I go onto a gravel path and I'm momentarily puzzled when I see an airplane behind the olive trees.
So this is where the tourists arrive, I circle around the airfield over rough stones and wish to be back on the smooth asphalt where the planes land and take off.
Later, I realize I could have stayed on the previous road to get to the supermarket.
Shopping is again an urgent necessity, and heavily loaded, I soon arrive at a campsite where I can set up my tent.
Once that’s set up, I go straight to the beach for another round of swimming. Or back and forth.
Since it’s nice, I stay for a while and want to use the time to work on the next report and then publish it.
Bad idea, since my fingers are still a bit wet, and after the whole text is highlighted, the display is filled with an o due to the water.
Really annoying, the entire report is deleted.
My curse was a bit stronger, but my nieces and nephews also read the texts, so I leave it at being very annoyed with my stupidity.
First, I’ll cook dinner and fill my stomach.
Then everything looks quite different again.
So I rewrite the report until I realize that I had already sent it to Jenni in a rough draft beforehand.
Of course, I could have checked that right away, so I start piecing together the parts again.
At least I can do that comfortably in the hammock I set up additionally.
For a moment, I observe a hedgehog sniffing around my things before it’s time for bed.
Once again too late, but I have to accept that and drift off to sleep relaxed.
Song of the day:
Raised Fist - Friends and Traitors
