04.06.22-Shopping, Santa Teresa, Copacabana

Today, after breakfast, we went straight to a shopping mall to get clothes from head to toe. The basic outfit took three hours. It wasn't fun because we really didn't feel like it. We went back to the hotel with our acquisitions. Of course, our luggage was not there yet :-(

Dressed fresh, we took an Uber to the neighborhood of Santa Teresa. We really wanted to see the colorful stairs (Escadaria Selaron) there. Our driver told us several times at the destination that he would not get out here. It wouldn't be safe. I asked why, but he pointed to a police car and kept saying 'no safe, no safe'. We looked at each other and got off. Maps showed us a 1.8 km walk to the colorful stairs. Sure, the area was already quite shabby, but it was bright and we were not afraid! What can I say, we actually liked the neighborhood quite well. It showed so many sides. On the one hand, there were great paintings on many house walls, then again the poor conditions, how people live, lots of homeless people, but they were all friendly.
There was a market in a side street. We strolled through it and watched the colorful hustle and bustle for some time.

The Escadaria Selaron was not crowded with tourists, so we could take great photos and look at many tiles in peace. We walked down all the steps and the atmosphere was great too. Brazilian music kept coming from the adjacent houses and cocktails were offered for little money. There was a great relaxed atmosphere. We felt really good there. After a delicious Brazilian meal, well-nourished, we took an Uber back to the hotel. In the lobby, three staff members were smiling at us. They actually presented our suitcases to us. Our luggage was sent to Rio via Lisbon :-)!

After a little suitcase party in the room :-) we ended the evening at Copacabana with delicious drinks. Here too, there was a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Daniela and I had a permanent grin on our faces.
