Ilha Grande - Brazil's Dream Island

Published: 25.06.2022

We took a coach from Rio heading south. The journey lasted a little over 2 hours. From our stop, we had to walk a short distance to the ferry. With this, we then went to the car-free island of Ilha Grande. Everything is transported here by water taxis or large luggage carts on the land route.

We had to walk about 10 minutes from the pier to our accommodation. Even on this short walk, you could see the charm of the island. Super beautiful colorful houses and the people seem relatively friendly and relaxed.

On the island, there are no big hotels, but so-called Pousadas. These are guest houses run by the locals.

Our accommodation is totally cute. The owner takes care of us affectionately. Although she only speaks Portuguese, she makes a great effort to explain everything to us. When there are language problems, Google Translate helps :-)! There are hammocks by the pool for chilling. We feel very comfortable here.

After checking in to our room, we explored the town. We quickly found out that it is totally safe here. There are countless restaurants with seating on the beach. We ended the evening with a cocktail.

The next day we set off on a small trek. There are over 100 super beautiful beaches here. You can reach them by water taxi or by trekking. Since the two of us are now experts - laughing - regarding jungle life, we set off on a path alone. I'll be honest, if I hadn't received the theory from the Amazon, I would never have hiked alone with Daniela there. The nature is beautiful and the waterfalls, which we looked at on the way, were very worth seeing and a great refreshment. From the last waterfall, we continued to the first beach. On the way there, an Argentine woman asked us if she could join us because she was a little scared in the jungle alone :-)! So the three of us continued walking. The beach and the sea were fantastic. After an hour, we took a water taxi to another beach. The system with the water taxis is not bad. If you don't feel like staying at one beach anymore, you can be taken to another or back to the center.

We also spent the evening chilling on the beach again.

On day 3, we went beach hopping. Two snorkeling stops were also included in the trip. But they didn't impress us much. Okay, there were plenty of fish, but no corals or reefs. I didn't even notice the second snorkeling stop, instead I stayed on the boat and watched Daniela snorkeling. I also didn't like the beaches that were included in this trip. Somehow I was glad when the tour was over.

Today we had ourselves taken to the most beautiful beach on the island with an old pirate ship. It was really gigantic and incredibly beautiful. Unfortunately, the surf was extremely strong, so I didn't want to swim. We walked along the beach a bit and cooled off in between. On the way back to the pier, we saw several monkeys and a small sloth in the jungle, oh that was super cute. We took the ship back in the late afternoon.

We ended today's evening with delicious cocktails and live music on the beach. We are very excited about this every evening and can sleep particularly well afterwards :-)!

Let's see what we're going to do tomorrow? Greetings from both of us :-)

Im Urlaub ist alles anders, da geht sogar "hin und wieder" ein bisschen Alkohol ☺️
