Salvador's beautiful east coast

Published: 17.06.2022

Last night we took the sleeper bus from Lençóis back to Salvador. The double-decker arrived at the small bus terminal in Lençóis with a 10-minute delay. All the luggage was quickly loaded and the guests were accommodated in their seats. Even on the first few meters of the drive, I wondered if the driver was still sane. The woman in front of me was also amazed by the aggressive and fast driving style. In some curves, I thought we would tip over. The road conditions in Brazil are also not the best, and with some potholes, I felt like the bus would break through! Fortunately, I fell asleep relatively quickly and actually only woke up shortly before Salvador.

We used today to rest. Since we were on the west coast during our last stay in Salvador, this time we wanted to go to the east coast. We took an Uber to Flamengo Beach. We didn't see any flamingos, but we did see a family of whales. It was unique. Daniela was lying on her sun lounger and dozing off. Since I'm too fidgety for that, I watched the sea and suddenly saw three spouts behind the waves. Two very big ones and one small one. I quickly realized that there were whales swimming there. I screamed with joy and showed Daniela where I had last seen the whales. The three whales stayed in our field of view for almost 10 minutes. Oh, it was beautiful :-) we were totally thrilled.

In the afternoon, we took a walk on the beach. The beaches on the east coast are much more beautiful than those on the west coast. They are kilometers long and the white sand feels so soft under your feet. I also thought the palm trees that grew along the beach were great. They provided us with great shade. The water temperature was also very pleasant. Many surfers and swimmers were in the sea. Daniela asked me why I was so calm. 'I'm thinking about the jungle'! From tomorrow on, we will be in the Amazon, in the 'real jungle'! Everything I have learned about it in the last few days is giving me goosebumps. I just hope I won't scream my lungs out in all of Brazil :(! I have no idea if we'll have internet there. If so, there will be a fresh daily update.

Tomorrow morning at 4:25 a.m., the plane will take off to the Amazon region, to Manaus! So, good night and greetings from us.
