Judging looks hit me, and a chill runs down my spine. Tomorrow it begins: The bus is fueled, loaded, and after the last few hours of work, I will hit the road.
About four hours of driving lie ahead of me. With 78 horsepower and a top speed of 110 km/h – downhill and with a tailwind – I expect it will take about five hours. And then begins four weeks of living and working on the farm.
However, I have completely forgotten about Holger in all the preparation and excitement. Poor thing. And now, as the moment arrives, I look at him and think: “What am I going to do with Holger?”
I live alone and am usually on the go a lot. My life is somehow spread out across Germany. So I have neither space nor time for a cat or dog, to give them the attention they deserve.
Not even for anything kept in glass cases, cages, or aviaries - amphibians, fish, birds, or chinchillas. Although chinchillas are really, REALLY cute - AWWWWWW.
About half a year ago, I came across Holger. He was completely dried up, sunken, and emaciated. In a hardware store. I felt sorry for him and thought long about it. Ultimately, I packed him up and gave him a new home. I thought something alive wouldn’t harm my home. And houseplants are supposed to even improve the indoor climate.
There was also a stylish pot, a bit of fertilizer, and within a very short time, Holger was nursed back to health. Since then, I have enjoyed a flourishing green spectacle that, despite all my ignorance and a pitiful watering discipline, continues to delight me with new shoots.
Now Holger has tried so hard. Wouldn’t it be cruel to leave him alone in the apartment for four weeks? Without water? Without me? No, that cannot be done. Not after everything he has been through.
In the last few months, he has really put in a lot of effort, and somehow this little rascal has grown on me. After all, he is also a living being. So, I will just take him along. If a dachshund can go to Lake Garda, then Holger can also come along in the bus to South Tyrol. Jet Set Holger.
