This morning we arrive in Mäloy. Mäloy has a population of just over 3000. Although the town is small, there are large facilities for preserving and processing fish. Every year, 180,000 to 200,000 tons of fish are brought ashore here and then exported directly abroad. We arrive in Alesund at noon. We have a somewhat rough sea, although according to the crew's information we are still lucky, as there is a storm raging further north. Alesund is a port city on the west coast with a population of 67,100 and is located at the entrance of the Geirangerfjord. It is known because most of the city was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style after a fire in 1904. A viewpoint on Mount Aksla offers a panoramic view of the entire city. We visit the Waldehuset, the only house that survived the 1904 fire. The two-story white house was built in 1871, with wood from a hut built around 1720 on the other side of the fjord presumably used as building material. The facade, facing Grensegata to the west, has four bays. Knut Walde acquired the house in 1895. The Walde family remained the owner of the Waldehuset for over 100 years, hence the name of the building. Around 1904, 16 people lived in the house. Two families of the Walde family lived on the first and second floors, while in the attic rooms, two older sisters and the couple Anders and Ingor Nor lived.
