Alaska and Canada May 26-June 9/28

After a somewhat rough night, we are already on deck early in the morning and keep an eye out for animals. Even before breakfast, we can observe two whales very close to the ship. (to be exact, Richi is lucky) Today we are going to College Fjord. In this area in the northern part of Prince William Sound there are five fantastic tidal glaciers, five large valley glaciers and a dozen smaller glaciers. Glaciers like the Vassar, Smith, Yale, and Harvard glaciers were named after the Ivy League universities on the East Coast by their discoverers during the Harriman Expedition in 1899. The only name that is not represented is Princeton. The Harvard Glacier is the largest of all the glaciers that can be seen here. Its front is 60 meters high and over 1.6 km wide. We can get very close to the glacier with our landing boats. In addition to the impressive glaciers, we observe many seals, some already with their young, simply fantastic.
