Alaska and Canada May 26-June 9, 2023 June 1st

Today we cross Holkham Bay and enter Tracy Arm Fjord. These fjords are relatively inaccessible for larger ships, making them one of Alaska's lesser-known gems. At the end of the fjord is the South Sawer Glacier, about 95 km southeast of Juneau. The glacier drains part of the Glacier Area of the Stikine Icecap westward into the sea. The glacier's accumulation area is located on the Canadian side, south of Owens Peak at an elevation of about 1400 meters. The average glacier width is 2.6 km and it is 40 km long. We can get quite close with our Zodiac boats and observe many seals with their young. In the evening, we can observe a group of humpback whales in Endicott Arm Fjord, an incredible experience to see them up close in their wild habitat.
