Stratford-upon-Avon - Shakespeare's birthplace

On Friday, I arrived in London and spent the night at my flatshare. There, I finally got to see my flatmates again, which made me very happy. It was great to chat with them again and enjoy a relaxing evening at home. I missed them a bit!

However, this also allowed me to take the opportunity to drop off one of my bags and repack my backpack. What can I possibly unpack because I didn't need it?

I slept well again in my flatshare that night, even though this time I slept in our new guest room. So everything was a bit different yet very familiar.

The next day, I continued right away. My first stop on my three-week tour of the UK. I was invited by the parents (Sue and Mac) of one of my flatmates to Coventry. Located centrally in England, it’s a perfect place to explore the surroundings.

So on my first real day in Coventry, I headed out to the area.

First, we looked at a few castles from the outside. The first is the Kenilworth Ruins. It is part of the English Heritage and is surrounded by a huge park that invites walking.

The second building was Warwick Castle.

An impressive castle, which we only viewed from the outside as well. Just seeing this castle from the inside would require planning a whole day, and we actually wanted to see Stratford-upon-Avon. So, we made 'only' these brief stops.

In Stratford, we first walked along the canal to reach the inner city area.

Stratford is especially known for William Shakespeare. He was baptized here and also died here.

His house is now a museum where you can learn everything about Shakespeare.

However, we did not go inside here either. We used our time more to explore the city on foot.

A walk along the Avon, from which the city partially gets its name.

On the way back, we passed the Holy Trinity Church.

Here lies Shakespeare's grave. As a result, the church is very famous and always well visited.

Then, by chance, we came across a very small museum. It is part of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and is located above the Swan Theatre. The museum focused on theater, displaying costumes and sharing interesting background information.

The building and the exhibition were a lovely conclusion to our trip to Stratford-upon-Avon. Sue was a perfect guide, and we had a nice time together. Next, we will explore Coventry.
