Greifswald is a town in northern Germany and a perfect place to recover from the strains in Poland. Here, I was able to visit dear friends I met during my time in Magdeburg. Johanna and I used to sing together in the university a cappella choir. That was six years ago, but since the Corona pandemic, we still meet monthly for an update Zoom call.

So, Greifswald. A place on the Bodden not too far from the Baltic Sea. On my first afternoon there, we explored the town, and I must say, it didn’t look too different from the old towns in Poland.

The cathedral was visible again and again from various points in the town. Being probably the tallest building in the town, it wasn't hard to spot.

The next day we took a trip to the Bodden, aiming to go swimming.

But I was so excited about swimming, and then it rained and it was cold.

After a lot of back and forth, I finally went swimming. The little black dot in the sea. That's me.

Happy and refreshed, I continued along the beach and on the way back through the forest.

We also made a detour to an old monastery ruin on the way back. The Eldena Monastery is very close to Greifswald.

We rounded off the evening with a lovely game night and preparing sushi together, and of course, eating it!

The next morning, I was welcomed by the most beautiful sunshine. I used my last hours to climb the tower of the cathedral and take a look at the interior. But, oh man, was it a steep climb at times.

With small passages and doors. For tall people, it must be an even more strenuous climb up and down. Because when you look at this door leading out onto the tower, one wonders why it is so small.

But the climb was definitely worth it, as one can see:

From there, I went directly back to grab my backpack and then off to the train station to catch my train to Berlin.
