Day 220 Kuala Lumpur

After landing in Kuala Lumpur yesterday and being three of us for the night, we tried something new. We booked an apartment through air bnb. The apartment is located in a huge complex of 4 skyscrapers. The skyscrapers are connected by a rooftop terrace. The highlight of the terrace was not only the view of the city center with the Petronas Towers, but also the infinity pool that we were allowed to use as tenants of the apartment. The apartment itself was very luxurious for our standards, and we had a good first night in Kuala Lumpur.

After a hearty breakfast in the shopping mall that was directly attached to our complex, Moritz and I set out to explore Kuala Lumpur while our Swiss friend went back to the apartment. He had visited Kuala Lumpur several times before and didn't want to do any sightseeing anymore.

Since we wanted to explore the city on foot, we walked to our first spot according to the map. But the university campus was in the way, and it was fenced off, so we had to take a detour and got lost right away. And just like in the movies, it started raining at that moment, and the streets didn't have sidewalks anymore. To make matters worse, my phone with the map also stopped working. But we found our way back, and it stopped raining again. At least for the moment. When we approached our first spot, it started pouring rain again. We found shelter at a viewpoint for the "River of Life" where we could wait until the rain shower was over.

Fortunately, that was the case after 15 minutes. So we followed the River of Life for a while and passed by beautiful old buildings and a mosque.

And finally, we ended up at Flagpoint, our intended destination. This is where independence was declared.

From there, we set off to get a closer look at the Petronas Towers. Since we didn't have a map anymore, we followed the visual landmarks. Luckily, the towers could be seen from almost everywhere. So we passed by Little India and admired the street art that was here and there.

When we reached downtown, we couldn't miss all the modern magnificent buildings that were rising into the sky on the left and right. And construction is still going on.

When we stood in front of the Petronas Towers and took the obligatory photo, we realized that we should slowly make our way back to our apartment.

Because we wanted to continue to Melacca tonight and had to catch a bus. But we had no idea which direction we had to go, and of course, we didn't have the address either. So we tried to orient ourselves and estimate the direction to go based on the panoramic photo we took from the rooftop terrace this morning. And it actually worked. We found our apartment again. Even though we had to walk the last 20 meters on the emergency lane of a kind of highway.

Since we took a bit longer than we had originally planned, we had to hurry now. So we grabbed our luggage and hurried to the metro station, which was conveniently located right next to the complex. When we arrived at the bus station, we had 10 more minutes until our bus left. But we didn't have a ticket yet. Fortunately, there weren't many people, so we could buy a ticket 5 minutes before the bus left and then go directly to the bus. It was a bit stressful, but now we're sitting on the bus and on our way to Melacca.
