Caribbean feeling in Puerto Viejo

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca - a small town on the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, not far from the border with Panama.

Actually, the Caribbean coast was not really one of our must-see locations in Costa Rica, but we decided at the last minute to take a trip to this small town, which we had heard a lot of good and bad things about (we kept hearing that it was supposed to rain 24/7 there).

Nevertheless, we gave the place a chance, drove for about 5 hours to the eastern southern part of the country, and were more than rewarded for it.

Contrary to constant rain - it did rain from time to time, but no more than before on the trip and mostly in the evenings. Of course, it was not blue sky and sunshine all day, but that was not so bad because otherwise we would probably have melted in the heat.

We spent a total of one week in the small Caribbean town with a reggae vibe, visited some of the nearby beaches (such as Playa Negra, Playa Cocles, and Punta Uva), the Cahuita National Park, and saw some animals (of course, sloths, raccoons, monkeys, and LOTS of mosquitoes).

We also enjoyed the charm of the small cafes, shops, and beach bars, which were at least partially open at that time.

The time in our hostel was also pretty good - because this was the first one where we were not surrounded exclusively by English people. This time we had a truly mixed group of people from many countries around the world (including Switzerland, Argentina, Bolivia, and the USA). These people also inspired us to not only spend our trip in Costa Rica but to dare to move on to other countries.

Tomorrow it's finally time - we move on and spend the next few weeks in a slightly more northern country, which is known for, among other things, giant hats, delicious food, and my personal favorite liquor. ;)
