Those traveling by train through the almost empty areas of the USA mainly see vastness and a huge and yet beautiful nothingness. No skyscrapers, no crowds of people or cars, no traffic jams, no massive shopping malls, no bling or glitter, just hay and straw bales, a few trucks, herds of cows, endlessly long freight trains, fields, fields, fields, fields, fields, fields; in North Dakota, oil and gas refineries, then eventually a few hills, more fields, fields, fields, a few mountains, even more mountains, and then eventually forests and mountains, and then eventually the Pacific comes, the end of the train route. This was my 38-hour experience from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Seattle, always just south along the Canadian border.Somewhere in North Dakota
The journey takes about two days and if you start from Chicago, you get about 8 hours of bonus time. The route is enormous, but the train barely travels faster than 100 km/h. You rock along slowly. I find it wonderfully relaxing.
After I enjoyed the route from Toronto-Winnipeg-Edmonton
