Deer, wild boars, birds, and mouflons

Today we will cycle all day through the nature park 'De Hoge Veluwe'. A unique experience! So for an entire day, we will see neither houses, cars, nor power lines (unfortunately also no wild boars, deer, or mouflons). Just pure NATURE.

In the meantime, we know: The 'Veluwe' is an extensive landscape region between the Ijsselmeer and the Rhine in the Dutch province of Gelderland, while 'De Hoge Veluwe' is a national park located in the center of the Veluwe region. As the name suggests, the 'High Veluwe' is situated at a higher elevation than the surrounding area. In the Netherlands, just a few meters can make a difference!

The Veluwe covers an area of about 1,100 to 1,200 square kilometers. It is known for its diverse nature with forests, heathlands, sand dunes, and rivers. The region is inhabited and includes several cities and villages such as Arnhem, Apeldoorn, Otterlo, and Harderwijk. 

'De Hoge Veluwe', on the other hand, is a large national park (about 5,500 hectares) located in the midst of the Veluwe region. In the protected nature, there are various habitats such as heath landscapes, coniferous forests, lakes, and dunes, home to deer, wild boars, fallow deer, and many species of birds. The Kröller-Müller Museum, one of the most important art museums in the Netherlands, is also located right in the nature park.
