Missed the King's Palace

It is Sunday and the weather is rainy in the morning. It clears up by noon, so we decide to take a trip to nearby Apeldoorn. And as always, when arriving in an unknown city, we first lack some orientation. But the start isn't bad: we find ourselves in Oranjepark, a small, well-kept park near the city center. From there, we still manage to get there after some detours. The city entices visitors with a variety of shops and restaurants. And although it's Sunday, most stores are open. So, it's an opportunity to buy a new pair of shoes for the fall.

Apeldoorn is part of the Dutch province of Gelderland and is located about 100 kilometers east of Amsterdam. With around 160,000 inhabitants, it is one of the larger cities in the region. Apeldoorn has a long history and was already a significant center in the 17th and 18th centuries. The city is known for being where the Dutch King William III had his Loo Palace built, one of the most important castles in the Netherlands. The palace with its beautiful gardens is now a museum and a popular tourist attraction, which we unfortunately miss today. If possible, we will make up for it on a second visit to the city.
