Rouen
Pentecost Sunday in the capital of Normandy

We actually traveled to Normandy for the landscapes. But since we arrived in the Calvados department, monuments from World War II shape the scenery in many places. After all, our campsite is only a few kilometers from the stretch of coast where Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Significantly, at our campsite in Tournières – small but nice in a wonderful area near Bayeux – there are only a few Dutch visitors this time, while the majority have license plates from the UK. In the small, idyllic villages, you hear more English than French on the streets... A very special atmosphere arises from the mix of uniquely beautiful beaches and the remembrance of the devastations of the last great war in Europe.
