All cheese or what?

The famous cheese market in Alkmaar is indeed a very nice tourist attraction at Waagplein, it takes place every Friday until the end of September. But today is Monday – so no market!

So we are meandering quite leisurely through the historic old town of Alkmaar: Pretty gable houses, idyllic alleys with plenty of greenery, a beautifully landscaped park that encircles the city center. Numerous canals with typical bridges, a beautifully decorative windmill... Somehow a bit like Amsterdam, just a little smaller and more manageable.

And there actually stands a bust in the park of someone who looks somewhat familiar: Rudi Carell, (at least to the older generation) known from film and television. It naturally stands at Rudi Carellplats. The city honors its famous citizen born here in 1934.
