Airborne Landings in Ede

Today, the annual Airborne Luchtlandingen en Herdenking (Airborne Landings and Commemoration) takes place at Ginkelse Heide near Ede. The event commemorates Operation Market Garden – one of the largest Allied airborne operations of World War II in September 1944. At that time, about 2,000 paratroopers landed on Ginkelse Heide near Ede. Hundreds of parachutists can be seen jumping from the sky, along with an aircraft demonstration by the 11th Air Mobile Brigade and various military vehicles from the post-war period. Notably, this is not primarily a military show, but a memorial event where surviving veterans are honored, wreaths and flowers are laid, and various speeches are made. However, of course, the numerous visitors are mostly interested in the aircraft demonstrations and parachute jumps. A true spectacle!

We will ride our bikes there and back, each taking a good half hour, despite the overcast sky and strong gusty winds. It must be seen when the opportunity arises and the timing is right...
