Lleida (in Spanish Lérida and in Roman times Ilerda) is a city and municipality in the southwest of the province of Lleida, in Catalonia (Spain, Europe). It is the capital of the province of Lleida and the region of Segrià, and also serves as the head of the judicial party, being the judicial party no. 4 of the province of Lleida.

With a population (according to INE data from 2023) of 143,094 inhabitants, Lleida is the second most populous provincial capital in Catalonia after Barcelona and is also the sixth most populous city in all of Catalonia, surpassed only by the city of Sabadell (the fifth most populous). Moreover, it has an area of 211.7 km², making it one of the largest municipalities in all of Catalonia.

The most important and famous monument in the city of Lleida is known as the Seu Vella (in Spanish la Seo Vieja), that is, the Cathedral of Lleida (in Romanesque style and located on top of a hill or turó in Catalan), the older one, as there is another cathedral known as the Seu Nova (in Spanish la Seo Nueva), which is known as the New Cathedral of Lleida, located on Calle Mayor (Carrer Major), right in the historical center. Undoubtedly, one of the most interesting curiosities of Lleida is that its town hall is not called 'Ajuntament' as in the rest of Catalonia but 'Paeria', meaning 'the Paeria of Lleida'. The name Paeria corresponds to the privilege granted by James I (1264) to the city, replacing the ancient consulate of Roman origin with Paeria as a form of municipal government.
