Back in the race

Published: 29.07.2022

With a better planned tour, navigation was handed back to Mini shortly after the start. Stefanie prefers to operate only the GoPro.

After yesterday's more touristy tour, we decided to ride the opposite mountain ridge today. We started directly from the campsite and climbed part of the Col d'Ornon near Le Bourg-d'Oisans. Then we turned off from there, struggled up a few hundred meters of elevation on asphalt until we finally found ourselves on our preferred terrain. That's when the real struggle began. Large loose stones required good technical riding skills and concentration. You won't believe it, but it got even more challenging. We pushed and carried our beloved bikes for the last 300 meters of elevation. Exhausted when we arrived at the top, we had our snack and started thinking about the downhill. During the uphill, we were amazed by a huge vertical cliff that glimmered in the sun, and we hoped we wouldn't get too close to it.

The descent turned out to be incredibly cool. Natural banked turns put a smile on our faces. Followed by extremely steep turns with lots of leaves and roots in the forest and some exposed sections, our smiles turned into highly concentrated looks. Once we safely reached the bottom, we have to say: awesome. Our suspicion about the cliff was confirmed, we were very close to the edge but always 100% safe.

On the way back to the campsite on the asphalt road, we once again crashed into a race. This time it was the Alp d'Huez Triathlon. After waiting for the start and being amazed by the long and skinny participants in the front of the starting field, we tried our luck once again and this time we managed to get a windscreen for the camping stove.

We ended the evening with leftover goulash from the day before, tested the windscreen, and prepared for our next tours.
