We arrived in China in the middle of the night, and after a grumpy taxi driver dropped us off at our hotel, we couldn’t check in as we arrived too late. We had to book another hotel where an even grumpier taxi driver nearly assaulted Miriam. Here we were allowed to sleep and were very saddened by the tough arrival. The next day, we explored the immense city, and the food wasn’t the best, but people were friendlier, and the city was beautiful.
On our second day in China, we didn’t realize it was a holiday for the Chinese, which made our trip to the Great Wall very long. First, we took a bus for 2.5 hours to the entrance of the wall. Here we had to take another bus to the cable cars. After about 30 minutes in line, we could finally walk on the wall, which made everything else trivial. The wall was the most incredible thing we have seen, and the landscape around it was just as breathtaking. The trip was long but worth it.
For the next few days, we were feeling a bit under the weather, and therefore didn’t see the temples we had planned, but spent our time on small excursions in the city.
