April 27 – Following in the Footsteps of the Romans in Tarragona & Camping Life in Vilanova
Today, we embarked on a little time travel – right into the past of the Roman city of Tarragona. From the magnificent Balcó del Mediterrani, where the sea seems so close you can almost touch it, our path led us straight into the old town. A maze of charming streets, where the Catalan daily life is still very authentic: children playing in the squares, laundry fluttering between the houses in the wind, and the scent of freshly baked bread from small bakeries.
What makes Tarragona special: right in the midst of this lively residential area, you suddenly come across impressive ancient ruins. Suddenly, between the houses, the Roman amphitheater appears – located right by the sea and incredibly well-preserved. The old forum and the necropolis also tell stories of Tarragona's significance as the former colony of Tarraco.
A walk along the old city wall, the Passeig Arqueològic, provided a wonderful panoramic view – of the city, the sea, and the past all at once. A city that breathes history.
Back at the Vilanova Park Camping, it was time to relax. The campsite itself is huge and lovingly designed – almost like a small village with everything you need. Unfortunately, the large water park was closed today for technical reasons, but the other two pools were open – in the evening, we took a stroll into the city where we had a delicious meal. We returned by bus to our pitch.
