Pragser Wildsee / Lago di Braies – The Jewel of the Dolomites

The Pragser Wildsee, known in Italian as Lago di Braies, is one of those places that seems as if it has come straight out of a storybook. Deeply nestled in the South Tyrolean Dolomites, it reflects in the emerald-green water. It's no surprise that this lake is considered one of the most beautiful in all of Italy – and a popular subject for photos on Instagram and travel magazines worldwide.

Arriving and Marveling

The lake is located in the Pragser Valley, a side valley of the Puster Valley, at around 1,500 meters above sea level.

Hiking around the Lake

A circular path leads around the lake in about an hour and around 4 km. The route is easy and also suitable for families – perfect for enjoying the changing perspectives. At times, one looks over the smooth water surface towards Seekofel, and at other times through light forests toward the opposite steep slope.

Those seeking a bit more adventure can also start from the lake for more challenging hikes – such as to the Seekofelhütte or further up to the Seekofel itself.

Boats and Mountain Idyl

A special highlight: the romantic wooden rowing boats that can be rented on-site.

For 2 hours of parking directly in front of the lake, we paid 15 euros.
