Today we started the day quite leisurely. We slept in and enjoyed a really good breakfast at the Addo Africano Estate Lodge. Our Driver No. 1, Stefan, took the wheel again. He safely guides us along the roads of Africa.
Our first stop took us to the Cholchester sand dunes. There, one could even go sandboarding. Just watching and walking around in the soft sand was really cool. Afterwards, we continued to the river mouth, where we made a stop to swim. The water was a pleasant 24.5 degrees – perfect for me.
On the way, we passed Coega. For many years, there were large salt pans there where the company Cerebos produced salt. The white-red areas right at the old coastline looked really impressive – almost like a painted picture.
In Jeffreys Bay, we needed to refuel, so we made a short stop. Right after that, we visited a coffee roasting company. Stefan, our coffee expert, was, of course, the planner for this stop. It smelled wonderful of freshly roasted coffee, and we couldn't resist – we had to take some coffee home. Just the aroma was an experience in itself.
After that, we drove on the highway through Port Elizabeth back to Jeffreys Bay.
There, we watched the surfers since today had higher waves than on December 31st, who boldly dove into the high waves. Swimmers were only allowed in the water on a very small section of the beach. (It looks funny in the photo) Six lifeguards were keeping a strict eye, and they could hardly keep up with their whistles, as they made sure nothing happened with the strong waves.
Afterwards, we continued to the famous Storms River Bridge. I actually wanted to walk the loop on the bridge, but to be honest: 216 meters deep is just too much for me. Stefan and I turned back, and our brave ones finished the loop. My legs were really shaky – that height was simply terrifying for me. So I preferred to turn around and took my photos relaxed from the other side. In the shop, we bought an Eland snack to taste – so to speak, Africa for the palate.
Late in the afternoon, we arrived at the Tsitsikamma Village Inn. We were greeted by a small, lovingly designed village – really cozy. After checking in, we settled into our rooms and first went for a swim in the pool. (Photo)
In the evening, we went to the restaurant for dinner. After that, we played a round of cards before we went to sleep around 11 PM, tired, satisfied, and full of impressions.
