Bella Italia – Start at Lake Reschensee
Between rain, bikes, and a sunken church tower
Our journey to Italy begins with a true postcard view: Lake Reschensee in South Tyrol. Rising from the water, still, proud, and somewhat mysterious, is the sunken church tower of Alt-Graun. It's hard to believe that an entire village once stood here. Today it is a place for reflection, wonder – and of course, photographing 📸.
Despite gray clouds and light drizzle, we are undeterred. Rain jackets on, and off we go on our bikes! The circular route around Lake Reschensee and Lake Haidersee is about 26 kilometers long and takes us through a varied landscape: sometimes along the water, sometimes through meadows and villages. And the rain? It stubbornly accompanies us. But as the saying goes:
“There’s no bad weather – only inappropriate clothing!” 😄
Nature reveals its rich green, clouds hang low over the mountains, and the lake appears almost mystical. A few cows curiously watch us.... The path is well-maintained and easily navigable even when wet – and the feeling of being almost alone with nature, as many are not so weatherproof.
Back at our accommodation, we are greeted with a true stroke of luck:
A room with a lake view – the perfect place to put up our feet and enjoy the view of the calm, wet lake.
Conclusion:
A successful start at Lake Reschensee is recommended. Tomorrow we will explore Tscherms and the surrounding area – hopefully with a bit more sunshine in tow. ☀️
