2. Before the start: a short break in Assisi

Today's weather report: heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and thick fog. But at least: it’s not cold.

I lacked the motivation for the mountain hike on Monte Subasio under these circumstances. However, I had enough motivation for a visit to the Eremo Carceri, which is just under four kilometers away. And of course, for a repeat visit to the Basilica San Francesco.

The Eremo Carceri

A lonely place where Saint Francis frequently retreated. In the 15th century, the Franciscan grotto was built over with a small monastery.
