Kanha National Park 2024

Published: 23.04.2024

(German version below)
The second - and this time last - stop in India is the Kanha National Park, which we have already seen. We were a bit disappointed here 10 months ago... the NP has 4 accessible sectors and we had 5 exits - but we were sent to one sector 4 times and then allowed to go to another once, while we didn't get to see 2 sectors at all. This time we have 7 exits here and we had specifically told our travel agent that we wanted to go to all 4 zones once. Well, the first 4 exits all led to the same zone, but at least we got to go to each of the other zones once after that.
Zone or not - in the end, everything depends on the tigers. We see 15 here (8 adults, 7 youngsters, no very small ones). However, most sightings are quite far away, hidden, tigers are just sleeping, ... we only really liked one sighting (Tiger #11), but on the other hand there was only one exit without any tigers at all ...

The second – and this time last – stop in India was the Kanha National Park which we already visited 10 months ago. Last year, we were a little disappointed as the park has 4 zones, and while we had 5 safari trips we had been directed into the same zone 4 times, thus missing 2 zones completely. This time, we booked 7 safari trips and requested to see every zone at least once. Again, the first four excursions went into one zone, but at least we managed to see the other 3 zones at least once each by the end of our visit.
In the end, we were here for tigers, and those can be everywhere. We were able to spot 15 tigers overall (8 adults, 7 subadults), however, the majority was far away, partially hidden, sleeping... There was only one really good sighting (Tiger #11), on the other side there was also only 1 trip with no tiger sighting at all.
