Pearl Harbor

Published: 19.07.2018

This day was actually planned as a complete beach day, but due to the weather conditions, no sun 🤨, we decided to drive to Pearl Harbor in the morning.

You don't really need to say much about Pearl Harbor. I think because of its unique location, it is the most famous Pacific naval base of the US Navy fleet and has become world famous for the bombing attack by Japan on December 7, 1941 (which forced the US to enter World War II).

The air bombing completely caught the Americans off guard and unprepared, resulting in very high casualties. Several battleships sank to the seafloor and over 2000 soldiers and US citizens died in the attack. A large number of them have still not been recovered and rest inside the sunken battleship USS Arizona at the bottom of the sea. You can still see and recognize this sunken ship today, but unfortunately, this memorial is closed for renovation work. My summer vacation renovation curse continues 👎🏼 I would have really liked to visit this site. But since that wasn't possible, we decided to visit the USS Missouri battleship. The "peace treaty" with Japan was signed on this ship back then.

After visiting Pearl Harbor, the weather still didn't improve, but we still laid down at the most famous beach in the world: Waikiki Beach, after having a meal at the Cheesecake Factory. Of course, there were masses of people there, tanning or swimming, but also surfing. I wouldn't want to lie here all the time, but experiencing this hustle and bustle once is pretty cool! If you visit Hawaii, you have to come here at least once. In my opinion!

In the evening, we strolled through the shops and sat down at the Hard Rock Café.

Now we're about to head to Diamond Head, an extinct volcano, and then we'll basically drive to the other end of the island to check out the surfer hotspots on Oahu... 🚗🏄🏼‍♂️🤙🏼
