Edinburgh – A City Full of History 🏰
Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, fascinates with its tumultuous history and medieval charm. Around the imposing Edinburgh Castle, the city developed into an important political center. In the 16th century, Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, shaped the city's history with her dramatic fate.
In the 18th century, Edinburgh became a significant center for science and philosophy during the Scottish Enlightenment and earned the nickname 'Athens of the North.'
Even today, the narrow alleys, historical buildings, and magnificent palaces tell of Edinburgh's captivating past.
Today's goal was to see as many historical sights as possible. Well, what can I say: right early in the morning, chaos broke out in the travel group with a bagpipe crisis. The restaurant critic did not choose the breakfast spot, and the cultural officer did not select the sights, resulting in a mediocre breakfast for the group before heading towards the shopping street, Princess Street. 😂
After we briefly raised our pitchforks and torches, Sara was then allowed to choose the restaurant for the evening while I got to plan today's route. 👑 Everything is back to normal!
So, regarding yesterday: alongside various clothing and perfume shops, we also visited well-known sights like Edinburgh Castle and the truly impressive monument for writer Sir Walter Scott. We also took a detour to the adjacent historical residential area, Dean Village, which lies beside a small stream and was known as the Mill Quarter 800 years ago.
Small alleys between the shops caught our eyes here and there. Generally speaking, the buildings are beautifully preserved, and the streets and sidewalks are very clean, making strolling a real pleasure. The sun and the bright blue sky lasted throughout the day. It was indeed a fantastic day of exploration - despite the crowds.
