The Idea

The idea was born during the Corona period. During this time, like many other IT colleagues, I worked almost exclusively from home. Previously, I was almost every week on the road in Germany visiting clients, but suddenly everything had to be managed from 'home'.

In wise foresight, the company was prepared, and thus a functional home office with headset, camera, decent monitor, and various software for internal and external collaboration was not a problem. After a familiarization period adapting to

• the home as a workplace
• jitter or brief outages during online work depending on the internet connection
• delayed responses on remote computers
• communication through camera, microphone, and speakers/headphones

working from home became increasingly productive, and time-consuming commutes could be eliminated. Thus, efficient, location-independent work became possible.

Then, during a vacation in the South, I noticed in an accommodation that my next-user would be doing his work from there for weeks. Also, the supporter of one of our software manufacturers was doing his work outside the company on the French coast.

This would also be something for me: a change of scenery, working where others vacation, maybe better weather and getting to know new cultures and languages.

Unfortunately, an inquiry with the team and management revealed that this was, especially for legal and tax reasons (officially), not possible.
